HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Health & Physical Education (Years 7–10)

The Health & Physical Education (HPE) program at St Patrick’s College, aligned with the Australian Curriculum Version 9, equips students in Years 7–10 with the knowledge, skills, and values to lead healthy, active lives. Students explore topics such as respectful relationships, mental health, nutrition, and physical activity through engaging theory and practical experiences.

In Years 9 and 10, students can extend their learning through exciting electives. These include Outdoor Education, where students build resilience and leadership in natural settings, and Performance Sports, which focus on tactical mastery and team culture in sports like Rugby League and Netball. Year 10 students may also choose The Introduction to Cert III Fitness or Introduction to Senior PE, offering pathways into fitness, coaching, and senior physical education.

These electives foster personal growth, teamwork, and community engagement, preparing students for lifelong wellbeing and potential careers in health and sport.

Senior Physical Education & SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness + SIS20321 Certificate II in Sport Coaching (Years 11-12)

At St Patrick’s College, students in Years 11 and 12 can engage in a dynamic Senior Physical Education. This course explores movement through scientific, psychological, and sociocultural lenses. Students develop tactical awareness, ethical decision-making, and training strategies to optimise performance in authentic physical activity contexts. Assessment includes multimodal projects, investigations, and an external exam, all designed to foster critical thinking and lifelong physical literacy.

Complementing this academic pathway are vocational options through Binnacle Training (RTO Code: 31319), including the Dual Qualification - SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness + SIS20321 Certificate II in Sport Coaching

  • Certificate II in Sport Coaching: A one-year program introducing students to foundational coaching skills, officiating, and community sport delivery.

  • Certificate III in Fitness: A two-year qualification preparing students for roles in gyms and fitness centres. Students learn to plan and deliver group and individual fitness programs, with pathways to ATAR contribution and further study.

These programs offer up to 8 QCE credits and are delivered through practical, project-based learning, equipping students with real-world skills and nationally recognised credentials.

Early Childhood Studies (Year 10, 11 & 12)
St Patrick’s College offers a vibrant Early Childhood Studies pathway that begins in Year 10 and extends into senior schooling. The Year 10 elective introduces students to the foundations of child development and play-based learning. Through hands-on activities, students explore how to create safe, inclusive, and stimulating environments that support young children’s growth across cognitive, emotional, and social domains.

Building on this, the  Senior Early Childhood Studies subject—an Applied syllabus developed by QCAA—focuses on real-world skills and knowledge relevant to early childhood education and care. Students investigate developmental theories, design learning experiences, and explore career pathways in childcare, education, and allied health. The course emphasises practical learning, ethical practice, and community engagement, preparing students for further study or employment in the sector.

This pathway nurtures creativity, empathy, and professionalism, making it ideal for students passionate about working with children and shaping future generations.
